CAR-ROUSEL - The Feel Good café

Words By Ben, Snaps by June and Ben

Passion is, to me, the best reason to live. It’s what gets me up in the morning and gives me the strength to deal with life’s issues. it is what drives me and what powers POWAA Garage.

Ever since I started this site, I’ve had a clear vision of what I wanted it to be: an avenue to share my passion, and the stories of the people who share that same drive in heir lives.

Aside from tinkering and racing my own car, finding the story behind other motorheads’ builds energises me. When I find a car with a story of passion, I can’t help but want to immortalise it in pictures and share it on this blog.

Recently, I found this passion in something entirely different: a café. A car café, to be more precise, which why it makes sense for me to share it with you, reader.

June and I were walking around the second floor of Kallang Wave, when a bright red Kombi shell caught my eye. The old shell had been given a second life, giving away its wheels, engine and seats for the benefit of shelves lines with classic scaled models, and spreads of cakes, drinks and food. The vintage sign above calling out Car-Rousel piqued my interest and, before I knew it, I was dragging June toward the café.

It’s rare to find good, properly-themed cafés in Singapore, and Car-Rousel is one of the few successful ones. The immersion is immediate, and this place has delicious goodies waiting for you at every corner.

Come in a be greeted by an inviting a Beetle-rear sofa and Car-Rousel-liveried barrel seats.

Look to the left and see car parts ranging from brake rotors, suspensions, steering wheels, turbos and more, grappling the side wall.

Look up to find a group of creative bicycle-wheel chandeliers.

On the right, at the back of the counter, you can find vintage plates relating the good ol' post-war times.

On the menu: a wide selection of coffees, savoury pastries, sandwiches and home-made cakes. The lady behind Car-Rousel, Jolene, used to run a bakery, so I highly recommend you to try out the cakes, they are a real delight!

Aside from being the eye behind the design of the café, Jolene is also the main instigator of the comfortable and welcoming ambience of Car-Rousel. Her and her team of chefs and waiters’ smiles and positive mood will help you relax and enjoy the good food.

Talking about food, you should try the Vanwiches, we did, and we were not disappointed!

Picture this: juicy meat, fresh veggies, with the dressing of your choice, and a side of oven-baked potatoes and pumpkin.

They also have freshly-baked quiches whose smell will catch you right at your stomach. Don't resist, just give in and enjoy, your taste buds will thank you!

All in all, if you want to find a good place to hang out and grab a satisfying bite while immersing yourself in the classic car culture, I highly recommend you check out Car-Rousel, at Kallang Wave mall #02-12.
